Museo de Arte del Banco
Museo de Arte del Banco de la Republica is one of the newer museums in Bogotá. Opened in 2004, it was designed by Enrique Triana Uribe, who wanted the building to blend in with its Colonial surroundings. He won the National Architecture Award for his work in 2006, and the result is a fresh, all-white building with a sun-lit garden that provides a pleasant place in which to wander as you explore Colombia’s rich cultural heritage. The museum name refers to the Banco de la Republica’s generous artistic donations, not the museum content; in fact, Museo Banco de la Republica comprises a gallery with space for two temporary exhibitions. The gallery frequently features Colombian artists, such as Maria Fernando Cardoso, but has also displayed well-known international artists. In the past, Museo Banco de la Republica has exhibited collections of work by Man Ray and Andy Warhol, and the constantly-rotating exhibitions are well managed and innovative. The space also holds children’s workshops, which makes it perfect for a family visit.
