Museum of Military History
This magnificent museum, sitting next door to the Jo’burg Zoo, is a testament to South Africa’s position as the predominantrnmilitary power on the continent. The entrance to the museum is flanked by an impressive array of military vehicles from recent history. The exhibition inside comprises some 40,000 different items, demonstrating the country’s bellicose past and acknowledgement of military might. However, these weapons have helped shape not only South Africa’s immediate present but that of its neighbours and the world at large. The objects on display range from some of the rarest aircraft on the planet to books, journals and archive material. The Museum is also regarded as the spiritual and a symbolic home for regular and reserve soldiers and veterans in South Africa and throughout the world. A number of veteran organisations view the Museum as their headquarters.
