Nietzsche
Given its location, tucked away between the Reina Sofía art museum and the bohemian neighbourhood of Lavapiés, it’s no surprise that Nietzsche attracts artsy types out drinking in Madrid. Young movers and shakers on the local scene flock to the place, hanging around smoking ‘jazz cigarettes’ outside the venue and hitting the booze on the inside.
They come to Nietzsche to enjoy the live music acts that often feature, as well as some truly odd performance art. Projection screens in the middle of the bar add to the overall surreal feel of the place, while the comfy sofas that line the walls throughout the venue make for a good place to sit and watch the weirdness unfold. It won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it’s a good late-night option after a drink on one of the terraces along Calle Argumosa.
