Northern Beaches
Manly is one of the most popular and busiest beaches in Sydney, and so sizeable it’s been divided into various sections; Queenscliff, North Steyne, and South Steyne. There’s a plethora of things to do; grab a gelato or coffee along the corso, hire a bike and cycle along the promenade, learn to surf, have a dip at the sheltered cove known as Shelley Beach towards the southern end or hire a kayak and paddle to Store Beach, which is only accessible from the water. Head further north for Freshwater, a smaller beach with some excellent restaurants. The best surfing beaches are North Narrabeen, the northern end of Newport, Avalon and Warriewood. Lastly, every Sydney visitor should drive to the end of the Palm Beach peninsula, with its megarich mansions, clifftop lighthouse and, if you’re lucky, to catch a glimpse of iconic soap opera Home & Away being filmed.
