Hg2 : The Hedonist

Design museum or shop? You’d be forgiven for wondering on entering Obsolete. This beautiful Culver City shopping staple does indeed have a vaulted air about it – and often the price tag to match. But it’s worth it. Pieces here are so coveted, they’ve been involved court cases in the past. Seems everyone wants a piece of the curated Obsolete collection.

It helps that (and part of its appeal lies in) the pieces here being one-of-a-kind. On one visit to Obsolete you might spy a 1930s English country sofa or a modern 1960s sofa from Italy in all its yellow, curved glory. There could be French zinc watering cans or American tailor’s shears, both from the last century. Maybe antler-handled cutlery, brass chandeliers from the Czech Republic, or Venetian mirrors. Theatrical backdrops of pastoral scenes. Art Deco armchairs. Microscopes. In short: it’s a wonderland of furniture, homewares, and art pieces. There are things here you never knew you wanted, but just wait – once you’ve seen them, you’ll be hard pressed to leave without them.

Our advice? Come armed with a well-padded wallet (like many of owner Ray Azoulay’s high-wattage clients do) or a will of steel. The pieces on offer here are lust-worthy to say the least.
