Oden
Not named after a Norse god but rather the Japanese comfort food, Oden shows a new side of this well-known cuisine. Served as street food in Japan and Korea during the winter, oden is a soy-flavored, clear dashi broth with boiled fishcakes and vegetables. New Yorkers might mistake it for matzah ball soup. Oden, however, has elevated its namesake dish to haute cuisine by using only fish imported from Japan, abalone and organic vegetables from farms near Beijing. The interior is equally haute de gamme with floor-to-ceiling windows and white lace curtains separating each of the white lacquer tables. Since Oden is another venture from the man behind Glen Boutique Bar and Club Décolleté, it’s no surprise that top-notch sake tasting flights are available perfectly chilled (RMB 160 for eight or RMB 390 for 16). Fill up at Oden before moving onto the whiskey bar down the hall or the champagne bar around the corner.
