Olivera
One of the more relaxed bars in Madrid, the pillars and red velvet drapes create an elegant look at Olivera, but lampshades and scattered armchairs make this bar warm and cosy. A soft, yellow glow can be seen through the front window enticing in passers-by looking for a relaxed drink. Once you’ve settled into one of Olivera’s cushioned sofas, you won’t want to move – except to stumble over to the bar, of course.
There’s even a piano, but it doesn’t often get played. Instead, the music is suitably chilled and ambient. The bar is run by Serbs and is named after Yugoslavian movie star Olivera Markovic, whose portrait dominates the room (she looks a little like Catherine Zeta Jones). At weekends, the atmosphere is livelier but you are still guaranteed a chilled experience if you get here early and grab a comfy seat.
