Opera Bar
It’s been described ‘the best beer garden in the world’, which isn’t an exaggeration so it’s definitely one of the best places to drink in Sydney. With the water mere inches away and spectacular views across the harbour, it’s the sort of place Sydneysiders take international guests for sundowners, and end up staying on well into the night. The length of the bar is undercover, however, the majority of the terrace area has little more than a few umbrellas for shelter, leaving it at mercy to the elements. This means on a balmy summer afternoon it can be (as Aussies would say) a shitfight to snare a seat, while on a rainy night it’s a ghost town. If you’ve lucked out with a glorious Sydney day, there are few better spots to be, sipping on a chilled vino, draught beer or cocktail in-hand and gawping at the megawatt view while a jazz band plays. Best of all, you don’t have to dress up – t-shirts and flip-flops are uniform.
