Hg2 : The Hedonist

Operahuset

In addition to staging ballets and operas, the Opera House offers several excellent places to eat. Operakällaren is the most lavish, romantic and expensive, with plenty of gilt and oil paintings on the wall. Café Opera is the most fashionable; after dinner it gradually transforms into the city’s poshest nightclub (see Party). But the two most likeable spots are Bakfickan and Operabaren.
rn
rnBakfickan (The Back Pocket) has bags of charm, with its dark-green lampshades, marble counter, and white tile walls smothered with framed photographs from past productions. It attracts local business execs at lunchtime and pre- and post-theatre diners at night.
rn
rnOperabaren is similarly relaxed and should not to be missed by a visitor to Stockholm. Opened in 1905, it’s decorated in Jugendstil, the Scandinavian version of art nouveau. To sit in this beautiful room with meatballs and a Swedish beer is a marvellous experience.
