Os Corvos

A stylish modern interior and sophisticated menu make Os Corvos a unique find in Alfama, an area largely characterised by trascas and ‘tipico’ fado houses; ‘find’ being the operative word. Many of the labyrinthine streets of Lisbon’s oldest Bairro don’t even register on maps and it’s all too easy to take the wrong turn. But give the restaurant a call, and sympathetic staff are more than happy to collect stranded newcomers.
rnAnd the superb service doesn’t end there: English-speaking waiter Paulo uses a cook’s picture book to explain the menu and illustrate delicious and adventurous dishes. Unfortunately, sterile fluorescent strip lights and a conspicuous lack of music detract from an otherwise warm welcome. But don’t let that put you off.
rnA generous wine rack (where supermarket brands sit comfortably alongside classic vintages) and exotic home-made sorbets make it well worth the trek. This is one of the few good restaurants open on a Sunday.
