Located around 10 minutes by taxi to the east of the city centre, although conveniently on the airport road, the Palace Hotel is housed in a glorious nineteenth century mansion that perfectly suits the classically elegant style within. Rooms here are large and decorated in a traditionally refined European style, with shades of cream set against dark wood furniture and, in some rooms, elegant glass-fronted display cabinets of fine bone china. The overall effect is all very Parisian, although with a welcome Azeri accent. The service is extremely friendly and efficient and the view from the rooftop bar makes it worth a visit for a late night tipple, although perhaps not worth the trek for non-residents. It’s just a shame though that the hotel is located in a rather unexciting part of town.
