Straddling a corner no more than a few paces away from the rowdy Carmel Market, Pappa’s Italiano offers shady solace, complete with a replenishing atmosphere, menu and cocktail selection. The Trattoria lies on the outskirts of the iconic Yemenite quarter, serving as an unofficial gateway to this village within a city. Adopting the relaxed pace of its surroundings, the restaurant offers a contemporary take on Italian cuisine, specializing in Neapolitan pizzas and homemade pastas.
Guests are able to choose between oversized couches, traditional table sitting, or the allure of a zinc-top bar. Divided from the rest of the restaurant by a partition of colored glass bottles, the bar area can get quite crowded by locals seeking a night’s aperitif.
The soundtrack will sway between Italian genres and classic jazz. The Gnocchi Tartuffo is a kitchen highlight, as well as the Osabuco in apples and honey with polenta.
For a treat, enjoy a sunset espresso and dessert in the terrace area smoker’s lounge. The Yemenite quarter keeps its own unique pace, and Papa’s Italiano is the perfect perch to take it all in.
