Hg2 : The Hedonist

Patagonia Sur

Francis Mallman is probably Argentina’s favourite chef and apparently one of the city’s finest lovers – and to be honest, he’s shown some balls in building a restaurant right in the heartbeat of Boca, an area famous for tango and the most excitable football fans in the game.
rnHeavily policed in touristy streets, La Boca is safe to walk through during the day, but is not recommended for nocturnal sightseeing. It is, however, worth getting to Patagonia Sur for dinner, even if it means risking your taxi being hijacked.
rnThis is an exquisite example of Argentine cuisine in an in-the-trenches area overlooking the pungent waters of La Boca’s docks. But Mallman, who lives above the restaurant, could put his restaurant banner anywhere in the city and the Argentinos would still stroll in.
rnEmpanadas and chori-pan (chorizo in bread), followed by either rib-eye steak or Patagonian lamb – all Argentine stocking fillers – comprise the menu. But it’s the incorporation of fruit and vegetables to go with the Argentine basics that make Patagonia Sur La Boca’s only real dinner candidate. Leave El Obreo (see SNACK) for lunch.
