Patagonia
Amongst the chi-chi boutiques and somewhat formal eateries on the Mile, Patagonia stands out among the cafes in Miami for its casual attitude toward hospitality. That’s not to say the courteous workers here aren’t serious about providing an enjoyable break from the wealth on display outside. The Argentinean specialities here will more than meet your needs – if you’re seeking a hearty lunch, tuck into the tender grilled meats available at the rear; for a mid-morning pick-me-up, opt for a cappuccino and a croissant (the traditional alfajores incorporate dulce du leche, as do several of the delicious pastries on offer). Set off from the order counters and surrounded by wine bottles, the handful of red tables give the illusion that they’re in a venue one or two levels higher on the evolutionary scale. Patagonia is a rare affordable choice in the Gables that will leave you feeling satisfied and not financially cheated. If you’re in the mood to lounge a bit, there’s a sizeable selection of South American wines, but even these are reasonably priced.
