Hg2 : The Hedonist

In a desert city of surprising and idiosyncratic places, Paul’s Swiss/German chalet restaurant and beer garden must take the teutonic biscuit. Deservedly famed for their delicious steak – sourced from Brazil, marinaded to a special recipe and cooked to perfec-tion on an outside grill, Paul’s also does a fine line in spëtzle, schnitzels, sausages, fondues and, in winter, a deliciously spiced glüwein. In summer, a mainly ex-pat crowd fills the astonishingly green 100 odd seater beer garden – the garden was the work of a former Baku resident ex-pat from Greece – while in winter, a marginally smaller sub-section of the same crowd crams nto the cosy, wolf-skin-lined chalet-style restaurant itself for some good old alpine cheer. A mainstay of the foreign crowd in Baku, Paul’s is also the place to come to source reliable quality caviar to take home.
