Hg2 : The Hedonist

On the first floor of Milan’s best delicatessen is Peck Cafe?. Whatever any of Milan’s specialist cafe?s offer, Peck can probably also provide since it’s housed within 1,300 metres squared of gourmet food and with its own 2,000 metres squared on-site kitchen. Unfortunately there’s no going off-menu, but most tastes are catered for with, for example, 125 seasonally selected flavours of tea (even noting a difference between ‘breakfast’ and ‘brunch’ tea), all served on Wedgwood bone china at wicker easy chairs and tables dressed with starched white tablecloths. There’s a definite leaning towards the traditional, with Ritz-style Afternoon Teas (Il Te` del Pomeriggio), including tea, sandwich triangles, mar- rons glace?s and pasticcini – just without the scones. Wine can be summoned from Peck’s first-class wine cellar and is best taken with Peck’s mixed plate of hams in the afternoon. Or there’s caviar with cocktails – it’s all the same at Peck’s high prices.
