Hg2 : The Hedonist

Pelikan

Stockholm is full of super fashionable places to go for a drink, but there are some nights when you don’t want anything fashionable. Instead, you would prefer something completely traditional. Instead of yet more white-walled Swedish minimalism, there are times you want something in a century-old room that’s furnished with plain wooden tables, a tiled floor, and murals of monkeys clambering up huge columns. And it’s on nights like these that you should head to Pelikan. It’s one of the few old-fashioned beer halls still in existence in the city and it attracts a friendly, boisterous crowd who don’t care what label you’re wearing.

If you happen to get hungry, the food on offer suits the setting. The menu is all about husmanskost – traditional Swedish cooking that’s heavy on the meat and potatoes – which is just what you need after a few beers.
