Pepe Nero
Within reach of Jemaa el-Fnaa, and yet escaping the bustle and hassling that often comes with the main square, Pepe Nero sits quietly in the heart of Marrakech’s side streets. Set inside a riad, with the scattered lanterns, coloured mosaics and candles, traditional Moroccan charm and décor abounds. Diners can choose to eat in the intimate alcoves inside or in the courtyard outdoors surrounded by rose petals and trees, both of which provide an exquisite setting. Having a fresh take on the standard Moroccan cuisine, chef Khalid Robazza Essafa offers diners a mix of Italian and Moroccan food, with dishes such as lamb tagine and Moroccan pigeon pie sitting beside veal carpaccio and courgette ravioli. The restaurant strives to make every detail of the diner’s experience top-notch, from the service, the Prosecco upon arrival, the food and setting.
Although the benefits of being situated off the beaten track are many, beware – some find Pepe Nero slightly too hidden (particularly in the dark). Be on the lookout for signs posting the way or, if you feel unsure, avail of the Pepe Nero’s useful porter service that will deliver you directly to the restaurant from Jemâa El F’na Square.
