Philippe the Original
Talk about an authentic LA experience… This place has been in business for 100 years – yes, LA existed 100 years ago – serving up outrageously appetising, hard-to-rival French-dipped sandwiches, which they claim to have invented by inadvertently dropping one into some roast drippings. Perfect for a pre-Dodgers game bite, the old-time feel of the place comes through in its salads, coleslaw, potato salad, soups, and, oh yes, stewed prunes. They also claim to serve 300 pounds of pigs feet a week, so make of that what you will. It’s a landmark without too much pretension, tons of history, plenty of personality, great food, and good prices. Need we say more?
