Pizza East Kentish Town

Put simply, Pizza East Kentish Town serves ciabatta-style pizza to North Londoners in sleek surrounds. And they are sleek, with a hearty dose of industrial chic thrown in for good measure. The effect is softened slightly by dangling cured hams and rows of wine bottles, while pistachio-coloured walls warm the pristine effect of the white-tiled walls. And there’s the potential for literal warmth in the well-stacked wood pile ready and waiting to fire up the wood oven.

While pizzas are quite literally the name of the game here, the menu offers much more. There’s a list dedicated to greens, which is a lot more tempting than it might first appear, offering plates like shaved fennel, cucumber, mint, and almonds, and whole aubergine with caprino and pistachios. There’s also a decent selection of pastas (hello, mac and cheese) and dishes hot off the grill and fresh from the formerly-mentioned wood oven, like swordfish, avocado pesto, and cherry tomato. The pizzas, meanwhile, are as good as you might expect, topped with a tantalising array of ingredients, including nduja, veal meatballs, and San Daniele ham, and broccoli, sage, and buffalo mozzarella.

Aiming to be a local watering hole, the team at Pizza East Kentish Town have put a lot of thought into the drinks menu. There are bottled and draught beers, classic and clever cocktails (the Kentish Swizzle is a compelling mix of Buffalo Trace, Suze, honey lavender water, and lemon) and a largely Italian wine list. If you can hold off on ordering your pizza when you first arrive, there are a couple of great aperitivi as well, including the familiar Aperol Spritz and the potentially not-so-familiar Bicicletta (Sauvignon Blanc, Campari and elderflower). The selection of antipasti would make a great accompaniment to either; there’s everything from Marcona almonds to fried squid with Sicilian lemon, capers, and aioli.
