Pontus! opened in the summer of 2007 and it’s fair to say it has earned that exclamation mark. There’s nothing else quite like it in Stockholm. Named after its owner, Pontus Frithiof, it’s an establishment of many parts. There’s a cocktail bar, a dim sum station, a sushi bar and, tucked away near the entrance, a very cosy oysters-and-champagne bar. Then there’s the main restaurant on the lower level, which is stunningly decorated with specially commissioned wallpaper that gives the illusion of dining surrounded by shelves laden with books (everything from The Dangerous Book for Boys to Death in Venice and Pontus’s own cookbook). Thankfully, the food more than matches the hype. At the weekend there’s a DJ on hand, but weekday nights see lots of local office workers dropping in for a drink on their way home.
