Pontus!, which is named after its owner, Pontus Frithiof, opened near Stureplan in the summer of 2007 and since then it’s built a reputation for outstanding food and some of the best cocktails in the whole of Scandinavia. The cocktail list is excellent. The Thai Mojito and the Jerry Thomas Breakfast Manhattan – a blend of whisky, orange curaçao and English marmalade – are particularly wonderful.
rnIt’s a huge place spread over three levels. Just inside the entrance there’s a small champagne-and-oysters bar, while the main bar is attached to a sushi bar and a dim sum station that sends up great clouds of steam. The restaurant, downstairs, is decorated with custom-made wallpaper that creates the illusion of dining in some outlandish library where the walls are smothered with outsized books. It’s a popular destination for office executives every weeknight, with DJs playing at the weekend.
