This is more than just one of your run-of-the-mill Sydney cafés, quite literally. Porch is a shop, a cool retail space selling retro push bikes, Penguin classics, clothing brands like Skinny Nelson, organic t-shirts and bespoke jewellery pieces by Metallic Dreamer. The Parlour is the café, a casual eatery with a jumble of second-hand furniture finds spilling out onto the plant-strewn pavement. It’s rancho relaxo for post-Vinyasa yoga class hipsters, who sip soy lattes and chow down the café’s signature ‘smashed egg’ dish of hardboiled free-range eggs rolled in basil and salt and served with slices of avocado and toast. Java snobs might not rate the coffee as highly, but there’s a good range of juices and smoothies and the food is hearty and healthy, like frittatas, crusty linseed and soy sandwiches and falafel, tomatoes, cucumber and mint salad doused with lashings of yoghurt dressing.
