Presidential Cultural Centre
The better of Astana’s two museums named after the President – the other one being more of a paean to the President than a museum – this is worth visiting if you haven’t been to Almaty’s Central State Museum. Here you will find an impressive range of artefacts relating to Kazakhstan; its culture, history, archaeology, ethnography and arts. From bridal headpieces, musical instruments and equine armour, to the life-size replica of the symbolic ‘golden man’, you’ll be both inspired and informed. The shop on the ground floor is a great place to pick up local goods, including crafts and carpets. The centre is also home to an enormous archive, a library and a concert hall, maximising its cultural role.
