Hg2 : The Hedonist

For a really fantastic date – one that really feels like a date, meaning a transporting venue, the right amount of candlelight, enough of an audience so things don’t seem stage, food that invigorates the senses with its textures and wonderful tastes – not many New York restaurants can do much better than Public. And the Michelin star that they have just been awarded backs that up ten-fold. Located in the heart of Nolita, Public is the picture of “industrial chic,” with its deconstructionist décor from award-winning design company AvroKO. Chef Brad Farmerie puts on a real show every night, his fare as beautiful as it is well conceived – full grilled scallops with sweet chili sauce and crème fraîche, pan-seared New Zealand snapper, shiitake-crusted New Zealand venison loin with peppered spinach. Brunch purists swear by its Sunday morning, no-reservations feast with its fresh-baked scones, Turkish eggs with garlic yogurt and Kirmizi Biber butter, and corn and saffron pancakes. Ask about the tiny adjacent wine lounge called the Monday Room. It’s a sexy little tucked-away secret.
