The clue is in the name at Quality Meats, where all of the steaks are sourced from two family butchers, Milton Abeles and Strassburger Meats. Some of the cuts, such as The QM Double Rib Steak, are custom butchered to the chef’s specifications and only available at the restaurant. Everything is cooked simply so its meaty goodness shines through and flavour diversification is mostly left to the starters, which include crab and avocado, steak tartare and clam chowder. A wide range of hearty sides like corn brulee and waffle fries are on offer to accompany the slab of Quality Meats on the menu; cow in all its forms as well as roast chicken and baby back ribs. Patrons are assured that as well as snazzy ideas like adding pepper, the three types of fish can also be simply roasted. Definitely American desserts tend toward the rich and traditional.
The background to the carnivorous haven is butcher shop décor; wooden chopping block style tables, stainless steel bar; white ceramic tiles and meat-hook chandeliers. Waiters and bar staff wear butcher coats so they don’t get dirty when they make the steak sauce at your table or mix you up a Bloody Mary. Quality Meats’ atmosphere is rustic with luxury touches, much like the food on offer.
