Radisson Blu Plaza
Back in the 90s, The Radisson was the second international hotel group to open in Baku and set up its flagship at the top of the iconic ISR plaza, just to the north of Fountain Square. As at hotels across the city, the imminent arrival of several high profile new five-star players has led to a fevered rash of renovation, and here we have to say, it is not before time. As we go to press, the hotel’s impressively proportioned rooms with stunning views over Fountain Square to the Caspian beyond are looking very tired. However, if the newly renovated reception area (pictured) is anything to go by, then The Radisson will soon be vaulting its way up the charts and comfortably back into our top 10. Radisson has also teamed up with another ISR partner, the excellent Azza group, to offer an excellent bar (see Drink) and café (see Snack) and a very reasonable restaurant too (see Eat).
