Everyone bar vegetarians and meat-loving masochists comes here for the shawarma. The Middle Eastern answer to the döner kebab, the shawarma served at this outlet of the multi-faceted Maroush are arguably the best in London. Available in lamb, chicken or – if you don’t have food combining issues – mixed. They come tidily wrapped in fat, fresh pita packed with juicy, fragrant flesh, salad and – unless you decline, which would be a mistake – a generous slavering of garlic yoghurt, with the emphasis on the garlic. Wash it down with a fresh melon juice or lemonade and don’t dwell on the occasionally surly but always efficient service. Although there are a select number of shiny metal seats available, most stumble out, shawarma in hand, to drip garlic sauce down their front as they take in the wonders of Edgware Road at night.
