There aren’t many Dubai cheap eats that a taxi driver will find without a lot of pointing and several distressed calls to colleagues. Ravi Restaurant, however, will earn you a smile, a nod and a stress-free journey, as it’s fairly likely he’ll be a regular. There are no airs and graces at this local institution, which serves perfect Pakistani food to the masses. So popular is it – poll locals and you’ll probably find more have set foot inside this Satwa landmark than have visited the Burj Al Arab – you’ll likely have to hover round looking shifty and being offered ‘genuine fake deeweedee’ until a space at the outdoor, wipe-clean tables is vacated by a sated customer. Epic over-ordering is part of the fun but you’ll still struggle to spend more than peanuts on the mounds of mutton biryani, succulent kebabs and feather-light breads that arrive as and when they emerge, piping hot, from the kitchen.
