Rawda Café

A legend among Beirut cafés, Rawda is an open-air square of concrete and grass directly on the seashore behind the famous Corniche Ferris wheel. It is a simple, traditional place with basic plastic chairs and tables, but it does a mean mint tea or Lebanese coffee and prides itself on its narguilehs. Rawda is perfect for Sunday mornings, general chill-outs or early evening chats watching the sunset. It’s consistently popular among Beirut’s film and literary clique as well as many Muslim and Christian families spending quality time together. To be honest, the service is terrible but with about 100 tables to manage, it’s to be expected and all taken in a spirit of fun. Rawda is an institution and shouldn’t be missed, so pick a table and a water pipe and enjoy the sun and sea, local Beirut style.
