Rcaffe
Had a late one and looking for cafes in Cape Town that would satisfy that eggs Benedict crave at four in the afternoon? No problem. This sociable inner-city refuelling station specializes in all-day breakfasts and regularly posts omelettes and French toast specials on its chalkboards (look for them near the entrance, they’re easy to miss if you’re the sort who’s easily distracted by a good-looking clientele). The sandwiches are genius (as are the baked goods and confectionary – healthy muffins, filled croissants, candied Florentines and dark chocolate and almond roll), while the buzz is as strong as the coffee, although when it’s empty some say this is slightly too cavernous a rendezvous spot on Cape Town’s busiest street. There’s ever-present lounge music, but it doesn’t really help to dull the roar of traffic that constantly sweeps up Long Street and forms part of the ongoing passing parade of pedestrians, office workers out for a smoke, and curious onlookers who can’t help staring back at you through the vast picture-window frontage. Like a chill-out lounge without sofas, this is a rock-solid place to recuperate before part two of a serious shopping spree – Long Street’s Camden-style boutiques are moment’s away, as are Heritage and Greenmarket squares.
