Red Capital Club
Secluded down a quiet alley in the Dongsishitiao neighborhood, near the homes of past and present Party leaders, is the 1950s style Red Capital Club. The restaurant specializes in Zhongnánhai cuisine, named after the central government complex next to the Forbidden City that is the nerve center of the Communist Party. The courtyard restaurant is decorated with vintage furniture that once adorned Zhongnánhai and other 1950s memorabilia. The head chef has worked for many of the top leadership and prepares the staples of state banquets, which is a combination of Imperial dishes and those favored by Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. Enjoy Revolutionary specialties such as Yang Shangkun’s Bean-Curd Shreds, named for the Long March hero, and Wisdom Pearls, i.e. chili-fried pigeon eggs. Taking inspiration from the Qing dynasty masterpiece Dream of the Red Chamber, is a medley of eggplant, peanuts and other delicacies. Experience China’s revolutionary fervor at the Red Capital Club.
