Reposado
‘Tonight: Crap margaritas, bad service, stale tunes and the ugliest half-Asians on Ossington. Kapow!’ So reads the chalkboard outside. These worms of wit are bait to Toronto’s tequila-lovers who get reeled in here to let loose and go wild. With a striking salvaged cathedral window behind the bar, there’s a deep reverence for the spirit of tequila.
There are 70 varietals, all made from 100 per cent blue agave plant (and some of it winds its way into the neat tapas menu in the form of tequila cured salmon). The skeletal bat – the bar’s symbol – is the pollinator of the plant, and Reposado is the Spanish word for aged tequila. To find your favourite, order a flight – a sample trio of Mexico’s finest nectar.
On weeknights the DJ spins, and on weekends things get steamy with a jazz trio in the front window.
