Restaurant Schipfe 16
One of the oldest parts of the Altstadt, the Schipfe is a
charming cobbled street, serried with small artisans workshops selling
jewellery, furniture, clothes and handbags. One of its key attractions is this
wonderful little restaurant; a summertime favourite, it has a stone terrace on
the bank of the Limmat river shaded by large lime tree.
A must for lunch on a
warm day, reserve ahead to bag one of the two tables on the small wooden
platform in the river for a swan’s eye view of historic Zürich. The
Swiss-focused set lunch menus are reasonably priced at around CHF 25, with a
salad starter followed by robust main course; steak in pepper sauce, fish
kebabs with risotto and the like.
The cooking is competent, but go for the
gorgeous location rather than gastronomic fireworks.
