Riad Joya

Those familiar with the winding, narrow streets of the medina will be surprised at the spaciousness of the Riad Joya. This chic retreat, found in central Mouassine (putting guests in strolling distance of Marrakech’s main square, the Jemaa el Fna), has seven sizeable suites, all thoughtfully decorated in natural colours – with plenty of lavish detailing – by Umberto Maria Branchini, a spa and a restaurant.

Days here can begin with freshly-squeezed juice from locally-grown oranges and end with cocktails on the rooftop terrace and dinner beneath the stars, with all manner of relaxing decadence in between. A traditional black soap scrub, part of the hammam ritual, or an Argan oil massage, perhaps? The spa treatments are tempting. But back to the food: while the dishes served at Riad Joya have a European bent, there are plenty of Moroccan specialities on the menu as well, from market vegetable tagines to lamb couscous with 27 spices.

After all, Riad Joya knows how to spoil its guests – whether it’s with delicious food, or offering the services of a butler to ensure that your every desire is catered for. The idea being that guests feel at home. If only home felt like this.
