Hg2 : The Hedonist

Rockpool Bar & Grill

Set inside the glamorous, 1936 Emil Sodersteen-designed building, it one of the city’s finest Art Deco masterpieces, so it’s only fitting that after a $35-million investment, it became home to one of the finest restaurants in Sydney. With its magnificent green marble columns, soaring vaulted ceilings, dark leather décor and bustling open kitchen, walking inside is a feast for the eyes, though rest assured all the other senses get a work out, too. Celebrity chef Neil Perry is the darling of the foodie world for good reason – he is obsessive over fine details and all produce is sustainably-farmed and treated humanely. From grain to grass- fed, Perry sources only the best beef from Australia like Blackmore’s Wagyu, Greenhams and Rangers Valley. It’s then dried on-site and cooked over the wood-fire (the seafood in the charcoal grill) to perfection – try the sizeable rib-eye cooked minute-style. Sides are just as epic; just one spoonful and you may want to smother yourself instead of your forkful of Blackmore 220-gram Wagyu in creamed corn, mushy peas with a slow-cooked egg or mac and cheese. As for the liquids, the spectacular wine list extends to frighteningly-priced bottles worth several tens of thousands of dollars while over at the stunning bar are Australia’s finest cocktail barmen, mixing up flawless old-school classics. It all costs a pretty penny, but dining doesn’t get much better than this.
