Romeo’s Café
There are no menus in this dark little dining room at Romeo’s Café, which is lit only by a fish tank and a couple of candles but it should always be on everyone’s list for dining out in Miami. What you eat here rather depends on how your chat goes with Romeo Marjano, the owner and chef, who scuttles around the tiny 26-cover dining room gauging what everybody likes and dislikes. For $65 a head, he’ll tailor his northern Italian-influenced dishes to your tastes. Officially he’ll cook you six courses of whatever you want, but in reality Romeo cooks the same dish for everybody with a few variations. With Romeo in Italian mode, the courses are small, making it possible to conquer the full six. If you dislike something, then the efficient waiters will bring you another dish as soon as Romeo has decided on a suitable substitute. The darkness does hide a pretty sketchy wine list, however. To find the restaurant look out for the dark green awnings.
