Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet make their home in this imposing building just across the water from the Royal Palace. The Opera House is more than just one of the cultural hearts of the city. It also has several excellent places to eat, drink and even spend the evening clubbing (see Operahuset, Eat, and Café Opera, Party). Each season brings a busy programme of ballet and opera. There are also regular guided tours of the building in English, which allow you to go backstage and see the King and Queen’s private suite. Performances range from the expected classics to more modern productions, such as Pippi Longstocking: The Ballet, during which a pair of enormous ginger pigtails was attached to the roof of the building.
