From the outside the Royal Plaza is not one of the prettiest hotels in Beirut. But then it doesn’t need to be. Towering 12 storeys up, what it offers is a stunning panoramic view over the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Lebanon that’s truly hard to beat.
The majority of rooms are suites offering space and a reasonable level of luxury, but they’re somewhat lacking in terms of style. If you can afford it the Royal Suite on the tenth floor is a trick not to be missed: it has three bedrooms and balconies, and incredible views, giving you a feel of the city you don’t really get anywhere else.
The restaurants aren’t particularly exciting, but the rooftop pool is possibly the highest in the capital and attracts a lot of toned sun-worshippers. The guests are mainly from the Gulf states as well as a few aircrews, so it’s not the best place to be for those who want more of a buzz.
