Royale Cafe
Royale Cafe hides behind a very unpretentious front door but is one of Lisbon’s truly unique cafés, the magnum opus of its three young owners – an architect, a civil engineer and an actress – and has rapidly become a landmark in the Chiado area.
Formerly some stables, today Royale Cafe is an elegant fusion of different styles harmoniously existing side by side. While white is the predominant colour, antique pieces like the crystal chandelier, vintage black and white motif wallpaper, typical Portuguese porcelain and a Louis Poulsen lamp create a contemporary yet cosy atmosphere. Chill out jazz music is the perfect companion to a lazy Sunday brunch on the small wood deck terrace, together with the weekend paper.
The Mediterranean cuisine is largely based on a blend of home made, regional and organic produce – all of which have proved extremely popular. A mixed crowd makes the ambience more relaxed and you will often find some customers sipping a cappuccino whilst others are enjoying a late lunch.
Average meal price circa €18.
