Hg2 : The Hedonist

Rumi’s affable Iranian owners have distinguished themselves from other Middle Eastern restaurants in the capital by focusing exclusively on Persian cuisine. The result is tender meat marinated in pomegranate juice accompanied by aromatic rice. Persian cooking is lighter than other Arabic fare, making use of delicate spices and sabzijat (various green herbs). There are also copious amounts of hummus with pita and gigantic grilled lamb kebabs to be had. Try not to fill up on the bread and dips before the main course arrives. The setting is also appetizingly done in minimalist floor-to-ceiling mirrors and white latticework inspired by traditional Islamic decoration and quotations from the poet Rumi no less. Since it is a Muslim restaurant there is no alcohol on the menu but the owners are happy for customers to bring their own. Rumi is also family friendly with a small and colorful children’s playroom built with the owners’ daughter in mind.
