Saken Seifullin Museum
Saken Seifullin was a poet and writer now celebrated as a pioneer of Kazakh literature. He also fought for greater independence for Kazakhstan from the Soviet Union, for which he was executed and is today cherished as a ‘martyr for freedom’. This small museum on Auezov Street – built in 1846 and formerly a merchant’s house – is full of photographs, documents and personal belongings from his lifetime. Arranged into six halls, this museum is worth a visit both inside and out.
