This deceptively large building below the Castelo de São Jorge was a gift to local art schools Idfic and Arco from the Calouste Gulbenkian foundation. A former blacksmith’s, the space took two years to reconstruct and features original walls from the castle foundation.
rnThe area has been divided into two parts, one a rehearsal space for arts students and the other a theatre/late-night bar. A broad spectrum of events take place nightly, ranging from karaoke contests, stand-up comedy stints, DJ sets and sombre gothic folk gatherings.
nA venue of this size (600 capacity) with a late weekend license is a unique find in this sleepy part of town. The crowd, a mix of middle class intellectuals and creatives, is similar to that of nearby Chapitô. An alternative and more cultured take on Lisbon’s nightlife.
