Hg2 : The Hedonist

If Sasaya is Berlin’s current favourite Japanese restaurant, then sake and soy sauce are on everyone’s taste buds. The eastside’s hip squad has already granted their hallowed seal of approval and now every Tom, Dick and Helga is tripping over themselves to bag a table. A mix of lime green and orange, the interior is refreshingly modern, which suits the stylish clientele perfectly. Diners can choose to sit at a table, at the bar or cross-legged on the floor, the latter being more conducive to late night lounging – and despite the demand for tables, customers are never rushed. Thankfully, style is not at the expense of substance. Along with traditional Japanese cuisine, a range of regional specialities are offered, so venture beyond the bento box standards and you’ll be off to a good start. Unfortunately much is lost in translation, so it’s worth trusting the waiter’s recommendations. The restaurant stands alone at the quieter end of Lychener Straße.
