Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Savoy London

The Savoy London wreaks its revenge on the city late 2010, with the reopening of one of the most legendary boutique hotels of London on the Strand. The press has been immense, but this iconic institution doesn’t need coverage to get clients through its revolving glass doors. Despite being over two years late and £100 million over budget (!), the famed London hotel has been sorely missed. General manager Kieran MacDonald says; “We’ve updated the hotel, but it still has all the original treasures: the same roof Fred Astaire danced on, the same bar Marilyn Monroe drank at, the same piano Stravinsky played. We’ve just polished them up a bit.”

Indeed, The Savoy Grill also remains – this time headed up by none other than Gordon Ramsay – while the old hotel’s familiar Edwardian interiors still abound in two thirds of the bedrooms. The other third, however, are decked out in striking Art Deco style, with the hotel’s crowning glory being the Royal Suite – an eight-room palace spread across an entire floor. Embracing its history The Savoy London has also added a host of new hedonistic amenities, this is one refurbishment to be proud of.
