Scimmie
The most authentic rather than modern-looking of Milan’s nightclubs is a genuine grass-roots jazz club right on the canal, this is where A&R types come to scout for new talent. Since 1981, Scimmie has played host to rising stars and establishment alike, from free jazz, bebop, New Orleans and soul to hip-hop and even British comedy.

rnHaving accumulated a few stories along the way, its walls and menus are proudly adorned with newspaper clippings and autographed publicity posters. A spontaneous crowd, free to dance and cut loose, has been known to jump into the canal in crazier moments – fitting since the name (pronounced ‘shimmier’, and meaning ‘monkey’) is from Nietzsche – humans are more like monkeys than monkeys.
