Shangri-La at the Shard
There isn’t another hotel quite like the Shangri-La at the Shard in London. Elevated between the 34th and 53rd floors of London’s tallest building, the panoramic views are unsurpassed and uninterrupted as there’s nothing else at this height in the city, save for the odd bird or police helicopter. The views from the Shangri-La at the Shard extend over London; the world’s largest train set is spread out beneath you, with the carriages coming in and out of London Bridge and Waterloo, moving languidly through the urban landscape like snakes in the sun. The hotel itself is supremely comfortable – largish rooms with mesmerising windows, elegant Oriental-inspired interior décor and all necessary conveniences. On the 53rd floor is Gŏng, a sky-high cocktail bar looking down on the Bermondsey Distillery that produces its house gin. Next door to it is an infinity pool where hotel guests can exercise at altitude, swimming out over the city. Shangri-La also has Tīng restaurant up on the 34th floor, mixing locally sourced produce with a contemporary Asian menu, and the Láng deli and café, down on street level.
