Sheikh Saeed
The home of Dubai’s legendary ruler, from 1912-58, and grandfather of the present ruler has been painstakingly restored to its former glory: an example of traditional Emirati architecture, with walls made from crushed local coral, lime and plaster. The highlight of the museum is the rare and wonderful collection of historic photographs revealing Dubai in her infancy. It’s almost impossible to believe the cluster of palm frond huts and fishing boats on the beach was all that existed in Jumeirah only a generation ago. Head to the upper rooftop for its scenic views along the Creek, and if you’re hungry and up for a bit of local colour, pop into Kan Zaman, a popular local restaurant – big, bustling and totally authentic, at prices a fraction of your five-star.
