Shoreditch Rooms

The glacially-cool reputation of members’ club Shoreditch House has been built on exclusivity and aspiration, so it is refreshing that its latest of hotel ventures in London has a more egalitarian ethos. 26 small-but-perfectly-formed bedrooms are now open for all to stay in London, costing from under £100. Better still, hotel guests have access to the club’s facilities, including summer’s Scene Central: its rooftop swimming pool. Bedrooms are elegantly deco – rated with simple, muted furnishings, wood-panelled walls and stylish ‘traditional’ bathrooms (though it’s luxe rain showers over baths, plus Cowshed toiletries – there’s a Cowshed spa on-site), plus thoughtful touches such as retro radios, vintage books, kettles and hot water bottles. The idea is to create a cosy home-from-home, which isn’t too difficult given that all of the rooms are very compact. That said, it’s unlikely that you’ll spend much time there anyway – Shoreditch House is about the three Ps (partying, pampering and people-watching). The upper floors see the members’ club action (bar, restaurant and pool) – there might be an awesome view of the city up top, but that’s nothing compared to the fascinating sight of preening media wannabes, fashion folk and visiting A-listers.
