The concept behind this 11-room Lisbon hotel Solar dos Mouros, runs in much the same vein as nearby Palácio Belmonte: each space has its own distinct character, with an overall emphasis on intimacy. This is another Lisbon hotel owned by a Frenchman – artist and collector Luis Lemos – but is far less extravagant and expensive than the Belmonte. Contemporary works of art, including several by Lemos himself, have been carefully selected to give each area individual character.

Communal areas are thin on the ground, although a guest bar is due to open this year. Prices are exceptionally reasonable for a hotel of this quality.
